Welcome to Ms. Leonardo's Reading and Acceleration Support Weebly. On this site, you will find information about the class and useful websites.
Welcome to a new school year! We are excited to have your child as a part of the Bengal family! Fuquay-Varina Middle School shares Wake County Public School Systems vision that all students will be college or career ready upon graduation of high school. To that end, we carefully evaluate the progress of each student in our care. In an effort to meet the needs of all students, FVMS uses a data-based decision making process that evaluates student needs to ensure their success.
I have a Masters degree in Reading and will be working diligently with your student to ensure reading proficiency. In addition to teaching specific reading skills directly, We will be using the i-Ready program adopted by WCPSS. You can read more about this program at https://www.curriculumassociates.com/products/iready/diagnostic-instruction.aspx. Students will also be utilizing Read Theory. We used this program last year with impressive gains in reading proficiency. You can read more about Read Theory at http://www.readtheory.org.
As a part of this class, your child will enjoy more independent instruction with the smaller class size and will have more opportunities to address their personal weaknesses in reading. If you have any questions, please contact me directly at [email protected].

POSSIBLE ASSIGNMENTS WHILE SCHOOL IS CLOSED:
Even though schools are closed, it is important to continue with the progress you have made this year. With this goal in mind, let me suggest this optional assignment schedule: Monday: complete one i-Ready lesson Tuesday: complete two Read Theory quizzes Wednesday: complete one i-Ready lesson Thursday: complete two Read Theory quizzes Friday: if you do not have 45 minutes of i-Ready for the week, please complete 45 minutes. If you are not at the expected level on Read Theory, please continue to work toward this goal. In addition, complete one Phonics Lesson from the packet that I sent home. If you do not have access to these programs, please consider reading for one hour every day. On Friday, write a one page summary of what you read this week. Suggestions might include the title of the book/article/etc..., the author, and the page numbers of what you read and at least two quotes from the text. Check for spelling and punctuation. |
